5 WAYS THE MOST EFFECTIVE PEOPLE HARNESS THE POWER OF MINDSET

Success is a journey. And our mindset is the guiding light for the journey of success. Maintaining the right mindset is crucial to succeeding in anything.

“You can only control two things in your life:
Your attitude and your actions.”
– Darren Hardy

Here are a few ways the most effective & successful people develop and maintain a powerful success mindset.

1. EMBRACING THE POWER OF SELF-IMAGE:

Successful people create, build and support the self-image of a successful person. As Dr. Maxwell Maltz demonstrated, developing his Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques, people are too often held back by their self-image. Observing how his plastic-surgery patients could look in a mirror and still see unwanted features in their reflection even though those features had been completely replaced, he saw the power of self-image.

A self-image that carries us forward is vital to our success. See the greatness in yourself. We can never become something we don’t see in ourselves.

• How would you assess your self-image as hurting or supporting your success?

2. LEVERAGING THE POWER OF PURPOSE:

We are made for a mission. In A Purpose Driven life, Warren Berger explains how knowing your purpose is important because it focuses your life. It concentrates your effort and energy on what’s important. Successful people avoid living life like a wobbly gyroscope. Rather than the aimless distraction that permeates a life without solid purpose, the mindsets of successful people are focused on a clear purpose.

• What would you say is your own guiding purpose?

3. BEING PROACTIVE:

Out of all Stephen Covey’s, “7 Habits of Highly Successful People,” the #1 habit is the Habit of Being Proactive. You can either act or be acted upon. Being proactive enables us to choose our circumstances by taking the initiative. Reactive people are driven by feelings and circumstances. Proactive people are resilient and work within their circle of influence. Instead of abdicating responsibility for their circumstances, proactive people empower themselves to affect the world around them by taking action.

4. HARNESSING THE POWER OF HABITS:

Over 40% of the actions people perform each day do NOT come from active decision making. Nearly ONE HALF of our actions throughout any given day are based on unconscious habits.  A 2006 Duke University Study referenced in Charles Duhigg’s The Power of Habit, highlights how habits are hypnotic.

Whether successful people realize this or not, they actively & constantly build habits that support their success.Whether it’s business, family or health, results show around powerful habits that feed and support success. And with this understanding, we can all choose and harness the power of habit to support greater success.

• What 2 habits would you eliminate or build to better support your success?

5. UNDERSTANDING THE POWER OF CHOICE:

Successful people take ownership of their current situation as a product of choices made. The 1st Habit of Being Proactive, proactivity is about responsibility. Stephen Covey points out the true nature of this power.

“Look at the word responsibility—“response-ability”—the ability to choose your response. Highly proactive people recognize that responsibility. They do not blame circumstances, conditions, or conditioning for their behavior. Their behavior is a product of their own conscious choice, based on values, rather than a product of their conditions, based on feeling.”

Do you see yourself as a victim or a victor? You can’t be both. Understanding the power of choice creates resilience. Successful people put aside the victim mentality and choose to be a victor. And as successful people take responsibility for their choices, they understand the gravity of decisions and strive for wisdom in all choices.

• Are we taking responsibility for our choices every day?

THE POWER OF YOUR MINDSET

Mindset doesn’t just shape how you see the world. It drives your actions on a daily basis. Even when things like unconscious habits and subconscious self-limiting beliefs come into play, making the choice to eliminate bad habits and develop good habits is a choice. Taking the time to assess self-limiting beliefs and eliminate them from your self-image is a choice.

And we don’t have to do it alone. Coaches, mentors and resources are available to help us on that journey. But it’s up to us to take the steps to use them to help us.

Mindset is the force that tips the scales to our advantage and turns success from something intangible into something that is inevitable.

Because if we don’t learn to control our mind, then our mind will control us. Mindset is everything.

The more we focus on building and maintaining a powerful success mindset, the more we are able to propel success and get all we want out of life.
